Dr. Goessling is a practicing hepatologist and gastrointestinal oncologist. As chair at Yale, he is responsible for the overall clinical, education, and research activities of the department. He led the physician-scientist training program for 9 years, giving him expertise in medical education.

Citation

For significant studies in liver development, regeneration, and cancer development, for pioneering the zebrafish model to investigate novel methods to induce liver injury, and for discovering several pathways regulating stem and progenitor cell formation and function using chemical genetic screens.
